Lithuania’s Premier Paluckas resigns after allegations of corruption

After the resignation of Premier Paluckas, Lithuania is initially without a government. The politician had previously fought for allegations of corruption for a long time.
The Lithuanian Prime Minister of Gintau’s Paluckas has resigned from his office according to allegations of corruption. This was confirmed on Thursday by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. According to the state’s constitution, the entire government automatically resigns. However, the president can appoint a transitional government.
The resigned Paluckas belongs to the Social Democratic Party LSDP, which had won the parliamentary elections last October. In the course of his resignation from the top of the government, he also provided his office as LSDP boss. President Nauseda said that the Social Democrats should now again take the consultations for government formation.
Against Paluckas is investigated due to alleged financial crimes that affect companies. On Thursday morning it was announced that there were searches at the “Dankora” company, the Palucka’s sister -in -law heard. The company received European support and bought battery systems from the “Garnis” company, which belongs to the Prime Minister.
Last week, the sister -in -law company rejected the allegations of the nepotism with the argument that the business was a public tender.
With the resignation, a week -long posse ends, in which Paluckas had been asked to resign several times. According to LRT, the Social Democrats are said to have already designed several scenarios for a time after the premier was resigned.
