In the news of the Financial Times, based on sources close to the subject, it was stated that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who felt great political pressure in Washington due to the security of artificial intelligence models and legal regulations, brought up this proposal in his meetings with the Donald Trump administration.

The news reported that Altman advocated that the public gain a financial interest in the company as the best way to share the economic gains that artificial intelligence will bring with society.

It is stated that Altman offered the government a 5 percent share of the company, while the 5 percent share of OpenAI, whose market value has reached 852 billion dollars, corresponds to approximately 42.6 billion dollars.

The news also emphasized that Altman suggested that other US-based artificial intelligence giants transfer similar shares to the government through a “national wealth fund” to be established.

It is not yet clear whether the Trump administration will accept the share offer.

In April, OpenAI proposed establishing a “public welfare fund” that would distribute the economic benefits obtained in the artificial intelligence sector to the public.
