The Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD) has published data on natural gas production activities on the country’s continental shelf.

Accordingly, natural gas production in the country increased by 6.9 percent compared to the previous year in 2024, reaching 124 billion cubic meters. Thus, the record in production in the country was renewed.

Norway’s gas production was recorded as 116 billion cubic meters in 2023 and 122.8 billion cubic meters in 2022, when maintenance interruptions were largely effective.

Norway became Europe’s largest supplier of natural gas in 2022 following the Russia-Ukraine War, while gas from the country accounted for nearly 30 percent of all imports to the European Union.

In his assessment of the issue, NOD General Manager Torgeir Stordal said, “As the transportation of Russian gas through Ukraine ends at the end of the year, gas from Norway has become even more important.” he said.

Norway’s oil and gas production will gradually decline towards 2029, according to official forecasts.

NOD predicts that Norway’s gas production will fall 2.9 percent annually to 120.4 billion cubic meters in 2025 and remain close to this level until 2027. The production in question is expected to decrease to 110.8 billion cubic meters in 2029.
