President of the Turkish Butchers Federation, Osman Yardimci, made an evaluation regarding red meat prices in his written statement.
Deputy said, “There is an increase of approximately 10 percent in lamb prices compared to a month ago due to lamb births. This increase is periodic. After the New Year, prices will balance again. There has been no increase in beef prices during this period.” he said.
Stating that red meat prices were intended to be shown particularly high, Deputy said:
“Price increases in red meat are shown to be higher than they actually are. Currently, minced beef costs 550-600 liras per kilogram. There are those who show it as more than 700 liras. Showing prices this high benefits meat barons and chain markets. It harms local producers and small tradesmen. By showing prices high “There are also those who want to pave the way for imports.”
Nihat Çelik, Chairman of the Central Union of Turkish Breeding Sheep and Goat Breeders (TÜDKİYEB), emphasized in his statement that there were speculative news about red meat prices and that these news should not be taken into account.
Çelik pointed out that the news in question harms growers and consumers and said:
“These news are published by some groups seeking profit. Increases in input prices, especially feed, are naturally reflected in meat prices. In addition, in every transition period when lambs are born, there may be temporary price increases, which do not exceed 10 percent.
