Ranhehohe US and Russian representatives want to advise on the future of Ukraine next week. Europeans are not there. They want to meet on their own summit.
Negotiations on Peace in Ukraine are picking up a journey: In the coming week, U.S. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Senghohe representative of Russia in Saudi Arabia will report on an end to the end of the Russian war of aggression. In addition, a meeting of US President Donald Trump with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin is to be prepared in the Arab country. The European heads of state and government also want to come together for a special summit in Paris in the coming week.
They fear that Europe could be excluded between the United States and Russia during peace talks. According to “Politico”, no representatives of Europe will take part in the talks in Saudi Arabia in the coming week. The Ukraine would not send any representatives there either, the US magazine reported, citing a Ukrainian civil servant.

The US special envelope for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, had replaced in the Munich security conference on the participation in negotiations required by European allies. Earlier negotiations failed because too many parties were involved, the British broadcaster BBC quoted him. The Ukraine and EU countries insist on the fact that they have to sit at the negotiating table when looking for a peace solution.
USA and Russia agree regular contacts
In addition to Rubio, according to the US broadcaster CNN and FOX News from the US side, the National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and the Middle East specialist Steve Witkoff are to be there. It was initially not clear who should come to Saudi Arabia from the Russian side. The meeting should take place in the coming days, reported “Politico” and CNN, citing US officials.
Rubio and his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrow had previously called together for the first time after the new US government took office. “Regular contacts, including to prepare a Russian-American summit, were agreed at the highest level,” said the Foreign Ministry in Moscow.
Trump called Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin in the middle of the week and spoke about a possible termination of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Both heads of state agreed to start negotiations, including a personal meeting. Trump had said the negotiations should start immediately and called Saudi Arabia as a possible summit country. The Arab country had then declared its willingness to act as a host.
The EU heads and government heads want to advise themselves at a special summit at short notice. A meeting for today or Monday in Paris was initially not confirmed by the Élysée Palace. The Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski initially announced this on the platform X, but later withdrawn the post. Other media also named Monday or next week as an appointment for the planned summit.
The Élysée-Palast only announced: “There are ongoing discussions between leading European politicians about a possible informal meeting, but not yet defined.” At the Munich Security Conference, Sikorski spoke of an invitation to a meeting in Paris by France President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the British news agency PA, British Prime Minister Keir Strandmer is expected to the summit in Paris. He said that this was a “one -time moment for our national security” and it was clear that Europe had to take on a larger role in NATO. The United Kingdom would work to ensure that the United States and Europe said, he said, adding that one should not allow split in the alliance of “external enemies”.
At the end of February, Starmer wanted to discuss the views of the European heads of state and government in Washington when visiting US President Trump in Washington, the British broadcaster BBC reported. Another meeting of the European heads of state and government with the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyi is expected after his return from Washington.
