US President Donald Trump wants to block the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian navy chief describes the plan as “ridiculous.” All developments in the news blog.

Before the announced US blockade of Iranian ports begins, many oil tankers are avoiding the Strait of Hormuz, according to shipping data. A ship flying the Maltese flag has already turned around at the strait. However, other tankers bound for neighboring Arab states continue to pass through the important waterway. US forces plan to block shipping traffic to and from Iranian ports from 4 p.m. (CEST) after peace talks failed. In return, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are threatening to take tough action against US military ships.

After the initially failed peace negotiations with Iran, the USA wants to begin today with a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz announced by US President Donald Trump. From 4 p.m. (CEST) the passage for ships that want to enter or leave Iranian ports will be blocked, the US regional command Centcom announced on the X platform. US President Donald Trump had previously stated on his online service Truth Social that US armed forces would “immediately begin blocking all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz.” Read more about this here.

US President Donald Trump’s announcement to block the Strait of Hormuz has been dismissed as “ridiculous” by the head of Iran’s navy. Shahram Irani said on Sunday evening, according to state television: “The US President’s threats to block Iran at sea are ridiculous and absurd.” The Iranian Navy “monitors and controls all movements of the aggressive US army in the region.”

Trump had previously made new threats after the failure of direct negotiations with Tehran and declared that the USA now wanted to block the Strait of Hormuz. The US Navy will “immediately begin blocking all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said on his online service Truth Social. He cited Tehran’s refusal to make concessions on its nuclear program as the reason.
