The fourth winter of war is likely to be particularly difficult for Ukraine. The energy system has already taken many Russian hits. President Zelenskyj is asking for quick outside help.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, Ukraine needs more international help to protect its energy supply. This and more anti-aircraft defense are “the most important priorities in view of the Russian attacks,” Zelensky said in a video message in Kiev.

“In fact, our utilities, repair teams and civil defense are busy on a daily basis with on-site recovery from the attacks,” he said. There are constant hits in the frontline areas of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson and Mykolayiv. In his opinion, international support should also be organized as quickly as the local Ukrainian authorities acted.

Before winter, the Russian army is again systematically shelling power stations and substations in order to destroy the supply of electricity, heating and water to the Ukrainian population. Staggered power cuts across the country are planned again for Thursday in order to stabilize the network, as the supplier Ukrenerho announced. Ukraine has been defending itself against the war of aggression launched by Russia for more than three and a half years.
