In October 2024, it was revealed that girls using Discord on social media were blackmailed, bullied, sexually abused and threatened, and the platform blocked access. Participating in a program broadcast on June 5, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the blocked social media platform Discord will be reopened soon.
“DISCORD WILL OPEN”
“We closed Roblox and Discord with court decisions. Now, especially Discord has reached the criteria that Türkiye wants in terms of content extraction. We are talking to our relevant ministers and institutions. We will probably open it after a while.”
WHEN WILL DISCORD OPEN?
In his statement, Minister Uraloğlu stated that Discord, which had an access ban decision by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office due to accusations of child sexual abuse and obscenity, was blocked because it did not share the requested data with state units.
Thereupon, Discord agreed to cooperate with regulatory authorities and efforts began to resolve the complaints. In April, Minister Uraloğlu announced that they were making progress in completely removing unwanted and harmful content.
In a program he attended, Minister Uraloğlu stated that Discord has reached the criteria that Türkiye wants in terms of content extraction, and that they are in talks with the relevant Ministers regarding its opening, and that they will probably open it for access after a while. Although a clear date has not been given yet, it is estimated that this will not last long.
