Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek evaluated the tourism revenues and foreign trade figures announced today.

Minister Şimşek said that the foreign trade deficit improved by 32 billion dollars compared to the previous year, and tourism revenues reached 58 billion dollars.

Minister Şimşek said that they expect the current account deficit to continue to decline.

Minister Şimşek’s statement is as follows;

“The positive outlook in foreign balance and tourism continues. The annual foreign trade deficit increased slightly in June compared to the previous month due to the holiday effect. Despite this, the deficit improved by 32 billion dollars compared to the previous year.

“In the second quarter, the annual number of visitors reached 60 million people and tourism revenue reached 58 billion dollars. We expect the ongoing decline in the current account deficit to continue for the rest of the year and for the current account deficit to decline to approximately 2 percent of national income in 2024. A sustainable current account deficit is of great importance for our program goals.”
