US President Donald Trump is again putting pressure on the regime in Tehran. He has called for an end to the executions of demonstrators and threatened a military strike.

US President Donald Trump has again warned Iran against executing government opponents. “A powerful fleet is on its way to Iran,” he said on board Air Force One on Thursday. He threatened the government in Tehran with a military strike if demonstrators continued to be hanged. The situation is being closely monitored. 25 percent punitive tariffs for the Islamic Republic’s trading partners would also come into force very soon. “And maybe we don’t have to use them, we’ll see,” he added. Many ships are on their way to the region just in case. “I would prefer that nothing happens, but we are watching them very closely,” Trump said of Iran.

According to US media reports, the aircraft carrier “USS Abraham Lincoln” and accompanying ships are on their way to the region. Additional fighter jets and missile defense systems would also be relocated there. Officials in the region still believed an attack was possible, the Wall Street Journal wrote. A week ago, the European aviation safety authority EASA called on airlines to avoid Iranian airspace for the time being.

Caution is also advised in the airspace of neighboring countries, especially if there are US military bases there, according to a statement from EASA. The warning is a response to the tense situation in Iran. It is therefore initially valid for one month.

At least 5,000 people have been killed in the protests in Iran, according to a government insider. Among them are around 500 members of the security forces, the government representative, who did not want to be named, told the Reuters news agency on Sunday.

The Iranian judiciary had indicated that executions could resume. On Friday, a week ago, Trump thanked the leadership in Iran for suspending planned executions of 800 people. The USA therefore initially refrained from attacking.
