US destroys five Iranian oil tankers – Rubio warns Tehran

It was only at the weekend that the US military targeted Iranian tankers. Now five ships are hit again. The US military speaks of retaliation for previous Iranian attacks.
The US military says it attacked and “destroyed” five Iranian crude oil tankers. The crew members had previously been asked to leave the ships, the responsible US regional command Centcom announced on the X platform. The oil tankers could no longer be used. A video clip released by the US military appeared to show missile attacks in the area of the tankers’ engine rooms.
The retaliatory strike came after the Iranian Revolutionary Guards attacked a US Navy warship with ballistic missiles twice in the past two days, Centcom said. The warship was able to avoid the attacks and no Americans were injured, it was said. US media had already reported on the new attacks on oil tankers.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Iran Meanwhile, the US will continue to attack Iranian oil tankers in retaliation. During a visit to Colombia Rubio explained that every time Iran tries to hit U.S. Navy ships, the country will lose tankers.
US military: strike against shadow network of the Revolutionary Guards
It was only on Saturday that the US military announced that it had attacked three Iranian oil tankers. In the current attacks, the US military destroyed the tankers “M/T Kaviz”, “M/T Charminar”, “M/T Horizon 1” and “M/T Riesco” in the Gulf of Oman. The ship “M/T Derya” was also attacked near the island of Charg, it said. Centcom justified the attacks by saying that the tankers were “part of a billion-dollar shadow network” through which the Iranian Revolutionary Guards financed themselves.
Previously, Iranian media had on Tuesday multiple explosions off Charg Island in the Persian Gulf and near the port city of Jask on the Strait of Hormuz reported. According to the pro-government Mehr news agency, explosions were heard in various parts of Kharg island, including in the port area.
