At the Munich Security Conference, the US Vice President criticized the “brand wall” of the Union for the AfD. Now CDU boss Merz became clear.

Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz (CDU) has rejected the statements of US Vice President JD Vance to deal with the AfD in a sharp form. “I forbid such interference in the German Bundestag election and also in government formation afterwards,” said Merz on Sunday evening in a round of four of the top candidates in the channels RTL and NTV. “I don’t let an American Vice President told me who I have to speak to here in Germany.”

Vance had previously criticized the European allies in a speech at the Munich Security Conference and warned of a threat to democracy. With a view to the relationship between the other parties to the AfD classified by the constitutional protection in part as right -wing extremist, Vance said: “There is no space for fire walls.”

The US Vice President generally warned the Europeans to exclude strongly right-wing parties from government coalitions. This disregarded the will of the people, for example when limiting immigration.

Merz said in the TV debate on the topic of fire wall: “I want the fire behind the wall do not become a surface fire in Germany.” He said this “very clearly and very clearly” to the US Vice President at the meeting in Munich.

Merz defended the Union’s delimitation to the AfD. He was aimed directly at the AfD Chancellor candidate Alice Weidel, who was also present in the studio, and said: “You are a right-wing radical party, for the most part right-wing extremist.” He says “again very clear: There will be no cooperation with this party.”
