The small neighboring country of Ukraine accuses Russia of massive destabilization attempts. Before the parliamentary election, the pro -European government receives prominent support.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk demonstratively strengthened the pro -European government in the Republic of Moldova with a joint visit to the capital Chisinau. They assured the little one bordering Ukraine on the way to the European Union and the defense against Russian destabilization attempts. The election is made in a month. Prorussian parties want to replace the government.
The three prominent visitors from the EU were welcomed during the visit of President Maia Sandu in Chisinau. “The door to the European Union is open,” said Chancellor Merz. “You are welcome to us in the European Union with all my heart.” Moldau is geographically and historically part of Europe, said the CDU chairman. He paid tribute to the “determined and successful” reforms that Moldau had already launched on the way to the European Union.
The Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Merz Hybrid attacks on the country with which he wanted to weaken the country’s democracy. “Moldau also wants to bring back to the Russian sphere of influence.” The Chancellor promised the Moldovian government: “We are helping them to keep their freedom and sovereignty.”
The French President Macron encouraged Moldau to further reforms. “I see that citizens have understood Moldaus that accession to the European Union is a historical opportunity for the future of their country, an opportunity for prosperity and security.”
Tusk emphasized that Moldaus is in the interests of Moldaus all over Europe. “In this joint effort, nobody does anyone else a favor or proves him a courtesy,” he said. Europe will be stronger with Moldova. “There is no safe EU, no safe Poland, France and Germany without an independent Moldova.”
Moldaus President Sandu emphasized that there was no alternative for her country to Europe. The Russian war against Ukraine shows that Europe means freedom. The pro -European president warned of attempted Russian influence on the upcoming parliamentary election on September 28th. There are disinformation campaigns and paid protests, said Sandu.
Merz, Macron and Tusk visited Moldau on the 34th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the former Soviet Republic with their 2.6 million inhabitants today. In the evening they want to talk to a rally in the central square of the city.
The country, which is one of the poorest in Europe, is divided between pro -European and pro -Russian forces. Russian soldiers have been stationed in the renegade region of Transnistria, a narrow country strip in the east of the Republic, since the 1990s.
The government in Chisinau accuses Russia of targeted disinformation and destabilization campaigns. Four Russia -oriented opposition parties have announced the establishment of an election block for the parliamentary election. In 2021, the EU-oriented PAS of President Sandu 63 of the 101 seats had achieved in parliament. In view of the difficult economic situation, the government party is now facing the loss of its majority.
