Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz met with the economic press in Istanbul.
Referring to the Family and Youth Fund, publicly known as ‘marriage loan’, Yılmaz gave important messages regarding this practice.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz’s statements are as follows:
“We will hold the first meeting of our High Council on Population Policies on January 9. At the first meeting, we will have consultations to determine a main framework, we should not expect our road map to take shape immediately. There will be a presentation for our comprehensive road map, we will discuss it and probably launch a new strategy action plan.
We will share with you the preparations, technical studies and probably this new road map at the next meeting, but in the meantime we will also have the opportunity to discuss some specific issues. As you know, we established one of these, the Family and Youth Fund, and we are currently implementing it at the pilot level in certain provinces.
We collect some of the income from oil, natural gas and mines in a fund and provide this as an interest-free opportunity to newly married young people. Should we expand this to the whole of Turkey and how should we do it? We will probably discuss this as an agenda item at the Population Board. Because one of the most important reasons for the low population is the increasing age of marriage.”
