Labor input indices increased in the third quarter

Turkish Statistical Institute announced the labor input indices for the July-September 2024 period.

Accordingly, the employment index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 3 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period of 2023.

When the subsectors are examined, the index decreased by 0.5 percent in the industrial sector, while it increased by 7.4 percent in the construction sector and 4.1 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The total hours worked index in the industry, construction and trade-service sectors decreased by 1.1 percent in the July-September period compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

While the index decreased by 4.1 percent in the industrial sector and 0.2 percent in the trade-service sectors, it increased by 2.8 percent in the construction sector.

The gross wage-salary index increased by 74.7 percent in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter last year. The index recorded an increase of 73.9 percent in the industry and construction sectors and 75.2 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The employment index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 0.8 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the second quarter.

When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 0.2 percent in the industrial sector, 1.3 percent in construction and 1 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hours worked index across sectors increased by 0.4 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter. The index increased by 0.2 percent in the industrial sector and 0.4 percent in the construction sector, while it remained the same in the trade-service sectors.

The gross wage-salary index increased by 8.8 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter. When sub-sectors are examined, the index recorded an increase of 8.1 percent in the industrial sector, 9.3 percent in the construction sector and 9.2 percent in the trade-service sectors.

HOURLY LABOR COST AND EARNINGS

The hourly labor cost index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 76.9 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

The index recorded an increase of 82 percent in the industrial sector, 69.9 percent in the construction sector and 75.5 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly earnings index increased by 76.6 percent in the same period. When sub-sectors are examined, the index increased by 81.4 percent in the industrial sector, 69.1 percent in the construction sector and 75.5 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The labor cost index excluding hourly earnings in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 78.2 percent on an annual basis in the third quarter. In the index, there was an increase of 85 percent in the industrial sector, 73.5 percent in the construction sector, and 75.4 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly labor cost index across sectors increased by 9 percent in the third quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter. When the subsectors are examined, the index increased by 8.9 percent in the industrial sector, 6.9 percent in the construction sector and 9.5 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The hourly earnings index in the total of industry, construction and trade-service sectors increased by 8.4 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the previous quarter. The index recorded an increase of 7.8 percent in the industrial sector, 6.5 percent in the construction sector and 9.2 percent in the trade-service sectors.

The labor cost index, excluding hourly earnings, increased by 12 percent in the same period. When the subsectors were examined, it was calculated that the index increased by 14.5 percent in the industrial sector, 8.8 percent in the construction sector and 10.9 percent in the trade-service sectors.
