The automotive industry located in Kocaeli painted a positive picture with its export performance despite the small decreases in production in 2024.
According to the data of the Automotive Industry Association (OSD), 620 thousand 56 passenger cars and commercial vehicles were taken off the production line in the factories located in Izmit, Gölcük, Başiskele and Çayırova last year.
Kocaeli, which produced approximately 1700 vehicles per day during this period, alone realized 45 percent of Turkey’s total automotive production, excluding tractors.
Vehicle exports from the city increased by 4 percent in terms of units compared to 2023.
The delivery points of 531 thousand 142 vehicles, which correspond to 85 percent of the vehicles produced in the factories of Ford Otosan, Hyundai Assan and Anadolu Isuzu, were overseas locations. Thus, the city alone made 52 percent of Turkey’s exports, which were recorded as 1 million 13 thousand 34 units, excluding tractors.
FORD OTOSAN’S LIGHT COMMERCIAL EXPORTS INCREASED BY 7 PERCENT
Ford Otosan became Turkey’s leading automotive company with the total production and export figures achieved in its Kocaeli and Eskişehir factories.
The company carried out 369 thousand 302 of its total production of 381 thousand 786 units in the Gölcük and Yeniköy factories in Kocaeli. 326 thousand 75 of Ford Otosan’s total exports of 330 thousand 240 units were vehicles produced in these factories.
Although the total production performance of Ford Otosan, which produces the “Custom”, “Transit” and “Courier” models in the light commercial class in Kocaeli, decreased by 3 percent compared to 2023, its exports increased by 7 percent.
FULL CAPACITY PRODUCTION FROM HYUNDAI
Hyundai Assan, which produces i10, i20 and Bayon models in its factory with an annual production capacity of 245 thousand units, removed 244 thousand 976 cars from the production line last year. During this period, the company sent 204 thousand of the vehicles it produced abroad, corresponding to 83 percent.
Anadolu Isuzu also exported 1067 of the 5 thousand 778 vehicles it took off the line.
