Money for builders: KfW starts funding for EH-55 houses

KfW is resuming a popular promotion. But only those who meet an important condition can secure a cheap loan.

The new construction and initial purchase of residential buildings that meet the requirements for an efficiency house 55, i.e. only use 55 percent of the energy of a standard house, are supported.

The resumption will help ensure that more urgently needed living space is created quickly, said KfW board member Melanie Kehr. “Our funding requires that the new buildings be heated exclusively using renewable energies.” Houses with gas and oil heating are therefore excluded.

The funding will be integrated into the KfW “Climate-Friendly New Building” program. The requirements also include:

The traffic light government had canceled funding for EH-55 houses in 2022, arguing that this energy standard had long been established. Therefore, the stricter and more expensive EH 40 standard should be promoted from now on. As a result, many investors put plans for EH-55 houses on hold and did not build them at all.
