Kamala Harris also wants to listen to Republicans. Trump claimed to have been “Man of the Year” years ago – without evidence. All information in the news blog.

10:35 p.m.: Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris has announced a non-partisan advisory committee if she wins the election. This should provide advice on political issues, Harris said at an event of Republicans who support Harris in Scottsdale in the hotly contested state of Arizona. The Democrat had already announced that she wanted to bring a Republican into her cabinet. She is running against Republican Donald Trump in the presidential election on November 5th.

Harris also spoke about her admiration for the late Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona. The Democrat also emphasized that the USA has a role model function in the world. At the event in a golf club with around 150 spectators, the 59-year-old was cheered – shouts of “Kamala, Kamala” rang out. Previously, people had waited for a good half an hour in the scorching heat of around 37 degrees to get in. Water and umbrellas were distributed.

12:36 p.m.: Since Donald Trump was first elected president in 2016, he has claimed to have been the state of Michigan’s “Man of the Year” several years ago. He also repeated this claim several times in the current election campaign. “Years ago I was honored as Man of the Year in this area,” he said during a campaign appearance in Michigan. “That was about 20 years ago,” he added.

To date there has been no evidence to support this story. But during a campaign event last night in Detroit, Trump presented a printed report from the Oakland Press that was intended to prove once and for all that he did indeed receive the honor.

The Oakland Press report is about an Oakland County Republican event at which Donald Trump was to receive the “Man of the Decade” award. But this event was not 20 years ago, but in June of last year. In fact, the newspaper also reported that Trump was said to have received the “Man of the Year” award from the same local Republican association in 2013 – that was less than 20 years ago, too. The local chapter’s spokesman denied this account, so the newspaper deleted the relevant section about Trump’s “Man of the Year” honor and apologized to its readers.

12:01 p.m.: The US news portal “Axios” reports that some Democratic MPs could refuse to confirm a possible election of Donald Trump. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland state representative, told Axios that “if Trump won a free, fair and honest election, then of course we would accept that,” but added that he believes that Trump will try to cheat in the election.

Jim McGovern, a representative from Massachusetts, made similar comments. If everything went smoothly, the Democrats would of course recognize the election, but only then. However, there are assurances from the Democratic leadership that, unlike the Republicans in 2020, they will accept the election results.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said at a press conference in September: “House Democrats will do everything necessary to ensure that the winner of the presidential election on January 6th is confirmed without drama or consequences.”

3:02 a.m.: Former US President Barack Obama campaigned for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the politically hotly contested state of Pennsylvania and railed against her Republican opponent Donald Trump. “There is no indication that this man is thinking about anyone other than himself,” Obama said of Trump, whose return to the White House Harris is trying to prevent. The presidential election will take place on November 5th. Polls suggest a close race.

What he couldn’t understand, Obama said, was why anyone would believe that Trump wanted to change things for the better. Trump is a “78-year-old billionaire who hasn’t stopped whining about his problems since he came down his golden escalator nine years ago.” Obama was referring to the moment when Trump first announced his presidential bid in 2015.
