The Ministry of Industry and Technology made a statement regarding the documentary shot for the first anniversary of Turkey’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı being sent to the International Space Station (ISS) within the scope of the National Space Program in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic.

Accordingly, the documentary called “Beyond the Horizon” was coordinated by the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, the Ministry, TUBITAK and the Turkish Space Agency (TUA).
Gezeravcı, who was selected from a total of 36 thousand people by passing challenging physical and psychological tests, performed 13 different experiments on a wide range of subjects such as biology, medicine, material science and genetics on the ISS, making history as Turkey’s first manned space mission. The prepared documentary will bring this historical turning point to the screen with behind-the-scenes processes.

In the documentary, every stage of the mission is closely witnessed, from astronaut selection to training programs in 4 different countries, from experiments carried out in space to the return operation of the AX-3 space mission crew to Earth.

In the documentary, while the space operations of NASA and AXIOM Space were explained by the most authorized names, the video diary of Turkey’s first space traveler was also included. In the documentary, the journey of Tuva Cihangir Atasever, who took over the torch from Gezeravcı and carried out a suborbital research flight, was also told.

4 COUNTRIES, 12 CITIES AND 280 HOURS OF VIDEO

During the two-year shooting process for the comprehensive documentary, a team of 15 people, directed by Burcu Camcıoğlu, recorded 280 hours of footage in 12 cities in 4 countries.

Gezeravcı’s footage of the time spent in space and images provided by NASA and the AXIOM Space team were used and more than 20 interviews were conducted.
