Silk beetle cultivation, which started by Aktaş family 10 years ago in Sason 10 years ago, continues to become a livelihood of many families in the district.
Citizens dealing with silkworm cultivation in Karşıyaka and Dereköy village of the district are very pleased with the yield of cocoon. Hasan Aktaş stated that the district brought silkworms to the district and that silk beetle cultivation became widespread to the whole district with the increase in Besim houses.
Aktaş mentioned that they brought silkworms to the district 10 years ago and said, “Our ancestors were in time. However, it was a forgotten profession over time. We started to revive this profession again. We started to feed the silkworms we brought in the first place.
As they grow, we then leave the leaves in front of them with the branch. After about 3 weeks of feeding, they enter the sleep stage for 72 hours. When we wake up, we feed as much mulberry leaves as we can. Then it starts to knit cocoon within 8 days. When the cocoons are knitted, we rest for 10 days, collecting them after the baking and selling them to the Koza unit. “
