Israel refused to enter the EU MP Rima Hassan because of her controversial statements. The politician sees the measure as an attack on the EU.
Israel refused to enter Rima Hassan. The French-Palestinian politician is a supporter of the boycott against Israel, said Interior Minister Moshe Arbe.
Hassan was part of an EU delegation that wanted to travel to the West Bank. After her arrival at Ben Gurion Airport, however, she was forbidden. Irish EU MP Lynn Boylan was also not allowed to enter. Hassan was outraged by the decision and wrote on the platform X that this was “an attack on the institutions of the European Union”. She also claimed that the delegation trip had previously been approved by Israel. In another contribution, she described Israel as a “genemic state”.
Hassan is accused of publicly positioning itself against Israel. Arbel said that she “consistently promoted a boycott against Israel in both social media and in media interviews”. In an earlier interview, Hassan described Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023 as legitimate and denied Israel’s right to self -defense.
The French conservative MP François Xavier Bellamy opened Hassan in the summer of 2024 after a dispute in the European Parliament: “At the moment @fxbellamy and his little friends who are closely close to the genocide Israeli regime. It will not stay that way at night.” Bellamy then described Hassan as “Hamas’ lawyer. According to the French media, Hassan was recently reported in France at the end of December 2024 for “sorry for terrorism”.
The refusal to enter could be related to a new Israeli law. This prohibits people who deny the terrorist attack of October 7 or who are committed to international criminal prosecution of Israeli soldiers. Holocaust deniers are also affected.
Hassan and their faction in the European Parliament recently requested the immediate suspension of the association agreement between the EU and Israel. Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar is currently talking to talks in Brussels. He explained that his country was open to criticism as long as it was not associated with “delegitimation, demonization or double morality”.
