While the practice called “Youth Blood Transfusion” is becoming increasingly widespread among rich people who want to look younger, discussions in the medical world continue. Dr. recently shared a post on his social media account. While Ayşegül Çoruhlu brought up the fact that blood taken from healthy young men aged 17 and 18 was sold for 8 thousand dollars, she said, “It is in the literature. Young blood is sold. It is collected from 17-year-old men. It costs 8 thousand dollars per liter. The purpose is youth. Blood carries information, it is a sign of health, “It carries the reflection of age. Cytokines, proteins, waste products, antibodies in the blood, everything is there,” he said. The experts we spoke to about “Youth Blood Transfusion” expressed their reservations and said that no method is miraculous.
NOT SCIENTIFIC
Genetic Scientist Assoc. Dr. Timuçin Avşar stated that it is not possible for people to rejuvenate and said, “Because growth, aging and differentiation are irreversible situations in organisms. It is not scientifically possible at this stage.” Assoc. Prof. adds that aging is not a disease but a natural process. Dr. Avşar said, “All living things are first born, develop, grow, and then the aging process occurs. This cycle can be slowed down, but it cannot be reversed. I think statements about rejuvenating people are not true. Since there is no scientific basis for rejuvenating people, it is wrong for any doctor to say so. “Whoever says this does not provide information with scientific methods and scientific facts.” said.
IT SHOULD BE EVIDENCE-BASED
Internal Medicine Specialist Prof. Dr. Osman Erk spoke about “Longevity Medicine”, which has become popular recently: “The practices defined as Longevity are the science of long life and there are dozens of elements in it. However, these are not proven methods. What kind of effects do practices such as taking someone’s blood or organ transplantation have on the body? It is very difficult to even determine in advance whether it might open. Even donating blood has certain rules and conditions. These are not simple operations. Interesting developments are happening every day in the field of longevity medicine. For example; Intermittent fasting, water fasting, and medications that eliminate degenerated cells are among these. Serious work is being done in these areas. However, these practices are not fully established yet.”
THOSE WHO LIVE HEALTHY REMAIN YOUNG
Prof. Dr. Erk, while answering questions about people getting younger, said, “People can slow down their aging or make them look younger. However, there are certain rules for this. These are; not having certain chronic diseases, eating healthy, not being overweight, exercising three and a half hours a week, not smoking or drinking alcohol. “If you meet these conditions, you can prevent diabetes by 93 percent, cardiovascular diseases by 81 percent, strokes by 50 percent and cancer by 36 percent.” he said.

On the other hand, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning against blood transfusions for the purpose of staying young in 2019. In the statement, it was stated that “Plasma infusion from young donors has no proven clinical benefit to cure, treat or prevent aging. Additionally, there are risks associated with the use of any plasma product.”
