US military fires missile at tanker off Iranian island of Kharg

The US military says it attacked an unloaded oil tanker with a missile in the Persian Gulf, putting it out of action. The ship tried to call at an Iranian port on Tuesday and was therefore hit off the island of Kharg, which is important for Tehran’s oil exports, said the regional command responsible for the Middle East (Centcom) on the X platform. A video was also published that is supposed to show the ship that was attacked. You can see a bullet hitting the tanker and then smoke rising.

The crew of the Botswana-flagged ship ignored repeated warnings and failed to comply with U.S. military orders on multiple occasions over a 24-hour period, it said. A US aircraft fired a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, preventing the tanker from reaching Iran.

On April 13, the United States began a blockade of all shipping entering and leaving Iranian ports. According to Centcom, U.S. forces have so far disabled six merchant ships and diverted 122 as part of their blockade.

Report: US sanctions largest Iranian crypto exchange

The USA has imposed sanctions on Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange Nobitex and its management. The US Treasury Department accused the company on Tuesday of helping the government in Tehran and sanctioned state institutions to circumvent Western punitive measures. In addition to the stock exchange itself, the two founders – two brothers from the influential Charrasi family – and company boss Amir Hossein Rad were placed on the sanctions list. While Iran’s economy is in free fall, the regime is using digital assets for its own corrupt purposes, said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. This includes circumventing sanctions and transferring assets abroad.
