In the written statement of the Ministry of Commerce, it was pointed out that after the update of the deposit participation fee applied to plastic, glass and metal packaged beverages in order to support recycling and efficient use of resources, it was observed that some manufacturers and sellers reflected increases in consumer prices that exceeded the cost increase. In this context, it was stated that the issue was examined and national and local markets and relevant sector representatives were warned that price increases other than cost increases would be considered unfair price practices. In the statement, it was also noted that inspections were initiated against manufacturers, suppliers and retail sales points of relevant beverage products, especially packaged water, and that any price increase that exceeds the cost increase and victimizes the consumer will be evaluated as unfair prices and the necessary administrative sanctions will be applied.

Following the ministry’s statement, inspections on plastic, glass and metal packaged beverages increased in Ankara. An inspection was carried out by Ankara Provincial Directorate of Commerce teams at the chain market in Çukurambar, Çankaya district. Officers examined the price tags of water and other beverages on the shelves one by one. Documents showing the sales prices of the products for the last 3 months were also examined and noted. It was reported that evaluations regarding exorbitant price increases will be made by the Unfair Price Evaluation Board and inspections will continue.
