Evaluating the inflation figures announced today and exceeding expectations, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek said that geopolitical risk and volatility in energy prices put pressure on inflation, but they limited its impact on inflation with the steps they took.
Minister Şimşek said that they will continue their policies in line with permanent price stability.
Minister Şimşek’s evaluation is as follows;
“Inflation was 1.7 percent monthly and 32.6 percent annually in May. With the support of favorable weather conditions, food prices decreased by 0.5 percent monthly. With rule-based pricing in education and the decrease in rent inflation, annual services inflation improved by 10.1 points compared to the same period last year and reached 41.1 percent.
Although geopolitical risks and volatility in energy prices continue to put pressure on the inflation outlook, we limited these effects with the steps we took. “We will continue our policies in line with our goal of permanent price stability.”
