Inspired by the ability of the human body to heal self -healing, scientists have developed an implant to treat patients using their own blood. This groundbreaking study was carried out by a team from the University of Nottingham, and the results are considered as an important step in advanced material science.
Support for the body’s healing mechanisms
The human body can quickly repair with natural processes such as small injuries and blood clotting. However, this mechanism is insufficient in greater damage. Researchers from the University of Nottingham developed a special material that improves the body’s natural repair process to solve this problem.
This material supports the structures called “regenerative hematoma” (rh) to repair the tissue in injuries. Researchers added proteins called “peptide amphifills” to the human blood, which they developed in the laboratory.
A more effective and safe treatment
According to the research team, the new material can be easily combined with blood and can be produced with a three -dimensional printer if desired. The joint author of the study. Cosimo Ligorio said that this approach has a great potential and said:
“It is both safe and easy to convert human blood into highly regenerative implants. Blood is a free resource and can be obtained in sufficient amounts from patients. ”
Successful tests on rats
The team tested the method on rats. The researchers added peptides to the blood of the rats and formed strong RH structures and placed these structures in the gaps in the skull of animals.
The results were quite striking:
The rate of bone formation in the rats used in new implants reached 62 percent in 6 weeks.
This ratio was only 30 percent in rats that were never treated.
Currently used in the artificial bone used in the recovery rate was recorded as approximately 50 percent.
Promising for people
Researchers emphasize that the new method is needed to use more work in humans. However, the first findings show that this approach can make a big difference in the field of regenerative medicine.
Leading the study. Alvaro Mata stated the importance of the method with the following words:
“The approach based on this bio-business union offers the opportunity to develop more effective regenerative materials by improving the mechanisms of the natural healing process.”
This new treatment method can provide a more natural and effective solution to use patients’ own blood to treat bone fractures in the future.
