According to the statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the heat wave affecting Turkey was directly reflected in electricity production and consumption data in July.
Minister Bayraktar emphasized that as of the end of July, Turkey’s installed electricity capacity was 112,999 megawatt-hours (MWh) and said, “In the same period, the share of solar installed capacity in the total installed capacity broke a record in proportional terms by reaching 15.6 percent.”
Bayraktar said that electricity production based on domestic resources peaked at 19.9 billion kWh in July.
Bayraktar said, “Electricity production reached 34.6 billion kWh and consumption reached 34.5 billion kWh, the highest monthly value of all time. We reached record levels in both electricity consumption and electricity production in July. We met 57 percent of the electricity demand, which peaked on the hottest days of the year, from domestic and renewable resources.”

Emphasizing that last month was the hottest July, Minister Bayraktar continued as follows:
“Accordingly, the intensive use of air conditioning systems in particular has increased electricity consumption and, naturally, production to record levels. Let’s not forget that with energy efficiency applications, it is possible to reduce energy consumption without negatively affecting production, the service provided and social welfare.”
