The US is trying to reach a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to Lebanese circles, Hezbollah views the initiative as generally positive.

According to government circles in Lebanon, Hezbollah sees a draft for a ceasefire with Israel put forward by the USA as a basis for further negotiations. The pro-Iranian Shiite militia sees this as “an opportunity to reach a framework for an agreement,” it said.

But there is still a need for discussion for Hezbollah. She does not want to give the impression that she is unconditionally bowing to the demands of the Israelis. She fears that her reputation could be further diminished in front of her supporters, who have already lost a lot in this war.

According to government sources and local media reports, Hezbollah sent its response to the office of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. An envoy from Hezbollah’s ally forwarded the answer to the US ambassador to Lebanon. The US mediator Amos Hochstein will travel to Beirut in the middle of the week, it was said.

Various media had previously reported on the alleged US proposal. Accordingly, Israel and Hezbollah should initially suspend their attacks for 60 days. The Israeli army is to leave Lebanon and Lebanese army soldiers are to be stationed at the border. Israel and Lebanon are also scheduled to hold negotiations on the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701 after 60 days. After the previous war in 2006, their goal was to end the fighting in the Lebanese-Israeli border area.
