As 2024 comes to an end, Başka Salih Özman announced the most profitable traditional investment instruments of the year. Özman stated that the return of 12 percent of the euro and 17 percent of the US dollar remained lower than inflation, while gold brought profits to its investors with an increase of 51 percent.
LAST YEAR 65 PERCENT, THIS YEAR 51 PERCENT
Pointing out that gold, which earned 65 percent last year, has provided 51 percent of its investors this year, Salih Özman said, “When we look at the earnings of traditional investment instruments, the euro has provided a gain of around 12 percent so far in 2024. We can say that this was well below inflation and those who invested in euro lost. The US dollar also gained 17 percent in value against the Turkish lira, and since it remained below inflation, investors lost money. These occurred due to the Central Bank’s monetary policy and the disinflationary process. This was not the case under the so-called safe harbour. International market gold also increased in ounces. The gain for gold investors rose up to 55 percent at one point, but it will close with a gain of more than 50 percent at the end of the year. “As such, gold, which provides returns above inflation, has become the most profitable investment instrument for investors in 2024,” he said.
Stating that all countries and central banks in the world fill their treasuries with gold instead of foreign currency and that gold will remain a safe haven for many years, Özman said, “Currently, the ounce of gold is at the level of 2 thousand 630 dollars. 24 carat gram gold worth around 3 thousand 30 TL. Quarter gold is sold for 5 thousand TL, half gold is sold for 10 thousand TL, jewelry lira is sold for 20 thousand TL and full lira produced as coins is sold for 20 thousand 500 TL. “As for the exchange rates, the dollar is bought at 35.06 TL and the euro is bought at 36.48 TL,” he said.
