Russia’s army attacks the Ukrainian capital again. Other parts of the country are also affected, and there are attacks with ballistic missiles. The attack was preceded by warnings from the president.

Russia has once again massively attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with missiles and drones. Violent explosions could be heard during the night in the center of the city of three million people. Many residents sought refuge in subway stations and air raid shelters. There were also brief power outages.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram platform that air defense was in action. He and military administrator Tymur Tkachenko spoke of several fires in the city, some caused by falling debris from rockets. A multi-story residential building collapsed in the Podilskyj district. It is feared that people may be buried under the rubble. Elsewhere, an attack damaged the upper floors of a 15-story apartment building.

Rocket and drone attacks were also reported in the major cities of Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia also used ballistic missiles in its attacks.

In Poland, the neighboring country to the west, the military said on Platform In Poland, the air defense system is repeatedly alerted during major attacks in Ukraine, and sometimes fighter jets from NATO partners also take off.

Attack follows warnings from Zelensky

Just ten days ago, Russia massively attacked Kiev with ballistic missiles and drones. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned several times since the end of last week of another massive Russian airstrike. “The information from the secret service about a possible massive attack remains current,” said the head of state in a video message on Saturday. He called on Ukrainians not to ignore air alerts.

The Ukrainian air defense is on standby, Zelensky explained. However, he acknowledged that a lack of supplies from Western allies to defend against ballistic and cruise missiles was causing problems.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion with Western help for more than four years. Both warring parties are making massive use of drones and missiles against targets in the enemy’s hinterland.
