While it was announced that the current period is the 12th month in which temperatures have been measured at record levels, the General Directorate of Meteorology reiterated its warning that temperatures will rise 4-12 degrees above seasonal norms in the coming days. While warnings were made that serious health problems could occur especially in risk groups, it was stated that the heat and high humidity values ​​would be felt more in cities where concreting is intense. While experts emphasized that those living in large cities, especially Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, may be at greater risk, There are fears that heat stroke could lead to sudden death.

High temperatures are expected next week, especially in Istanbul and Izmir.

HERE ARE THE RISK GROUPS

Heat stroke, also known as sunstroke, is caused by the body overheating when exposed to high temperatures for a long time. While doctors state that people over the age of 50 are at risk, the risk increases even more after the age of 75. Along with the elderly, babies and children under the age of 5 are also in the risk group. Experts consider those with cardiovascular diseases, Parkinson’s, dementia, obesity, diabetes, diarrhea, cystic fibrosis, scleroderma, as well as bedridden patients and those who have previously suffered heat stroke to be in the risk group.

LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND HALLUCINATION

People’s physical living conditions also play a role in determining the heat. The homeless, the poor, those exposed to air pollution, and occupational groups that have to work outdoors are also considered “at risk.” Doctors list the symptoms of heat stroke as follows: “Sudden increase in body temperature to over 40 degrees, dryness and redness of the skin, rapid breathing, increased pulse, nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, incoherent speech, inability to recognize surroundings, hallucinations and loss of consciousness.”

* Try to stay in the shade, under a tree. Wear a thick, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses. Don’t forget to use sunscreen with a high protective factor.

* Avoid going out during hot hours. Stay at home if possible, especially between 10:00 and 15:00.

Temperatures will increase by 4 to 6 degrees in a large part of Turkey, especially in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions. Extreme heat will be effective throughout the week.
