The group of estimators recently predicted stable contributions for statutory health insurance. But one fund is now significantly adjusting its contribution.

Expenditures are rising more slowly, income is increasing: the financial situation of health insurance companies is improving significantly as a result of the GKV contribution rate stabilization law passed this year. Nevertheless, another health insurance company, SKD BKK, now has to increase its additional contribution. As of November 1st, this will increase at the Schweinfurt company health insurance fund by 0.67 percentage points from 2.98 to 3.65 percent.

What the increase means financially

In addition to the general contribution rate of 14.6 percent, the contribution rate will now be 18.25 instead of 17.58 percent; Employees pay half of this. With a gross monthly income of 3,500 euros, the additional burden due to the additional contribution increase is just under 12 euros per month or 141 euros per year. With a gross monthly income of 5,000 euros, almost 17 euros more per month or 201 euros per year are due.

Those insured by SKD BKK have a special right of termination, provided they have not been insured with the company health insurance company for more than one year. This is valid until the end of November this year. Insured persons who have been members of the health insurance company for more than twelve months can change their insurance company at any time and without any particular reason.

Other health insurance companies adjust premiums

However, SKD BKK is not the only health insurance company that has adjusted its additional contributions in recent months. For example, the small BKK Groz-Beckert increased its contribution significantly to 4.20 percent on October 1st – an increase of 0.8 percentage points. Südzucker BKK also increased the additional contribution to 3.5 percent on August 1st during the year (previously: 2.9 percent). In addition to many smaller company health insurance companies, IKK Classic was also hit by one of the largest health insurance companies with over two million insured people – here the additional contribution rose by 0.45 percentage points to 3.85 percent. Other health insurance companies like the BKK Hercules and the BMW BKK However, they reduced the additional contribution over the course of the year.

Further adjustments at the turn of the year are possible. In mid-October, the so-called estimator group predicted that the additional contribution would remain unchanged in the coming year due to the improving financial situation. However, the individual health insurance companies are not bound to this assessment, but decide for themselves whether to adjust their additional contribution. The first health insurance companies – such as AOK Sachsen-Anhalt or BKK exclusive – have already positioned themselves and announced stable contributions for the coming year.

Cash registers have to inform again

Other health insurance funds could increase their additional contributions. However, they must communicate this to their members again. In the summer, the coalition factions in the Bundestag removed the notification requirement, but they had to reintroduce it after violent protests. However, health insurance companies no longer necessarily have to inform their members by letter, but can also do this digitally in the future.
