A woman who went to the hospital complaining of weight gain had a cyst weighing exactly 12 kg removed from her abdomen. The image that emerged after the surgery shocked even healthcare professionals. Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Murat Naki announced that they removed a cyst measuring 50 centimeters and weighing 12 kilograms from the abdomen of a patient who came to his door complaining of weight gain. Stating that the surgery was successful, Prof. Dr. Naki said, “During my examination, we saw that there was an ovarian mass. Our patient regained her health with a successful operation.”
Explaining the operation on the cyst weighing 12 kilograms, Prof. Dr. Naki stated that the process started with the suspicion of weight gain and said the following: “A 37-year-old patient of ours who does not have children has been seeking different treatments for about 9 months due to weight gain. The patient, who applied for a dietician check-up, observes that she continues to gain weight despite the diet. Before coming to us, our patient also turned to fat-burning functional treatments. However, since the weight gain continues every day, she goes to a doctor’s check-up. An ultrasound scan of the abdomen reveals that there is a very large mass inside. The patient is immediately referred to the gynecology department to see what this mass could be, and then applies to us. In the examination I performed, approximately “We saw that there was an ovarian mass measuring 50 centimeters. Then we requested an MRI of our patient.”
OPEN SURGICAL PROCEDURE WAS PERFORMED
Prof. Dr. Naki, who stated that they directly suggested the patient to have surgery, said, “If our patient had not been suspected of cancer, we could have performed the surgery as a closed procedure. Since there was a suspicion of cancer in the imaging, we performed an open surgery on the patient. When we entered the surgery, we detected a large mass, especially 50 centimeters in size, originating from the left ovary. We successfully removed the mass. The mass weighed approximately 12 kilograms. As a result of the pathology we performed after the surgery, we obtained a pathology result that was not benign but not cancerous either. We performed the surgery as necessary without causing any life problems for our patient. “Our patient will continue his life in a very healthy and fit manner. We are happy to have completed such an operation successfully.” He spoke as follows.
