A premiere that Donald Trump doesn’t like: The Democratic candidate is now giving an interview to the conservative broadcaster Fox News.
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris will give her first interview to the conservative television channel Fox News less than three weeks before the US election. The conversation with moderator Bret Baier will be broadcast on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. local time (00:00 CEST), as the broadcaster announced.
It is Harris’ first major television interview with a conservative media outlet since she was officially named the Democratic nominee in August. Since then, the 59-year-old has spoken to CNN, CBS and ABC News, among others, which are considered more liberal channels and tend to be more favorable to Democrats. After her election as a candidate, Harris was accused in the early stages of avoiding interviews and thus avoiding critical questions.
Baier is the chief political anchor at Fox News. His focus is on political analysis, interviews and news. His show “Special Report with Bret Baier” is broadcast daily and, according to the station, is one of the most watched formats. Baier’s role differs from that of the station’s commentators such as Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham, who very openly promote the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and criticize his opponents.
Trump’s criticism of the personnel selection followed promptly. Baier is “often very soft towards the left,” he wrote on the online platform Truth Social. Trump added that he himself would have preferred a “more stubborn journalist,” but Fox News had “become so weak and soft towards the Democrats” and allowed their statements to stand unchallenged, so none of that mattered anymore anyway.
The presidential election will take place on November 5th. According to polls, a very close race between Harris and Trump is expected.
