American government bonds are a popular haven for investments. However, in the midst of the Greenland conflict, a Danish fund is now divesting itself of it.

In the middle of the conflict over Greenland, a Danish pension fund is selling its US government bonds. The fund is divesting itself of its holdings worth $100 million, AcademicPension told the German Press Agency upon request. The reason for this is the tense financial situation of the US government.

The step is not directly related to the ongoing tensions between the USA and Europe, but of course these did not make the decision more difficult, said investment director Anders Schelde. AcademicPension has almost 175,000 members in Denmark and manages investments worth around $25.7 billion.

US President Donald Trump wants to take possession of Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, by any means possible. In response to the solidarity of European NATO countries with Denmark and Greenland, he announced that he would impose punitive tariffs from February 1st in order to break resistance to a sale of the Arctic island to the USA. The heads of government of Denmark and Greenland announced resistance to this.
