According to those close to Macron, France is determined to use its G7 presidency this year to make a useful contribution to dialogue and cooperation. Macron noted in private text messages to Trump that France and the United States were “completely in agreement” about the future course of action in Syria. They could also achieve “great things” in Iran.
Trump also published a private message that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had written to him with a view to the talks in Davos.
