Franziska Brantner, co-boss of the Greens, penetrate a delivery stop for German weapons that can also use Israel’s army in the Gaza strip.
Greens party leader Franziska Brantner has called for a stop by German arms exports to Israel for use in the Gaza Strip. “What we see in Gaza and West Bank is going far beyond Israel’s right to self -defense,” said Brantner of the AFP news agency. She spoke of an “openly propagated policy of displacement and annexation” both in the Gaza strip and in the West Bank, which contradicts international law.
“According to the latest requirements of the Israeli government, over two million people are now to be pushed together to twelve percent of the original area of the Gaza Strip,” Brantner criticized. “Humanitarian deliveries are still blocked, people die due to the lack of care,” she further accused those responsible in Israel.
Brantner positively rated that Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (both CDU) also “rightly criticized the warfare of the Israeli government”. So far, however, concrete consequences for German government action have not yet been recognizable. “Instead of remaining in the passive audience role, the Federal Government must finally have deeds followed by its words,” said the Greens Chairman.
“This includes an arms export stop for Gaza,” she added. Otherwise there is a risk “that it will be committed by international law”. In addition, Germany should “no longer block a common European procedure and clear the way for the suspension of the trade calms”.
In addition, there should be targeted sanctions against the ultra -right Israeli Minister Bezael Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir. “More than ever, international pressure is now needed for an armistice so that the civilian population is cared for and the hostages are released,” said Brantner.
The Greens have driven the attitude towards Israel earlier. The then board spokesman Hans-Christian Ströbele had to withdraw from his management office in 1991 after commenting on a Middle East trip to Israel with the words that this was “the consequence of Israeli politics towards the Palestinians and the Arab states”. Ströbele later regretted his statements.
