Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the new member of Turkey’s energy fleet, the floating production, storage and discharge platform (FPSO), will set sail from Singapore at the beginning of the week, and said, “We aim to start production in the Black Sea in 2026 with the floating production facility.”

Bayraktar made evaluations regarding Turkey’s energy agenda in the program he attended on A Haber.

Sharing information about the new ship that will join Turkey’s energy fleet, Bayraktar said, “Our new ship or floating production platform is setting sail for Turkey at the beginning of next week. This ship is essentially a unit, a platform that is part of our plans to increase our production in natural gas in the Black Sea gas field.”

Bayraktar, who shared the information that “The ship will set sail from Singapore at the beginning of next week. It has a cruise period of nearly two months,” said that the platform will undergo maintenance operations that will last for a few months at a shipyard in Marmara and then go to Filyos Port.

Bayraktar noted that the daily production of 5.5 million cubic meters in the Sakarya Gas Field is aimed to be increased to 10 million cubic meters in the first phase in the first quarter of 2025, and said, “With this new platform, we will hopefully increase this to 20 million cubic meters.”

Bayraktar, who stated that the platform will actively produce 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day in 2026 and will meet the natural gas needs of approximately 5 million households, said, “We aim to start production in the Black Sea in 2026 with the floating production facility. The ship will go to the Sakarya Gas Field and continue to produce this gas there for 20 years. It will remain stationary there.”

Bayraktar stated that the platform is approximately 300 meters long, 56 meters wide and 58 meters high, and that the ship will take gas from the seabed, process it and send it from the seabed to the facility on land.

Türkiye WILL PRODUCE ITS FIRST GOLD IN NIGER IN 2025

Referring to the agreement signed between Turkey and the Somali government to explore for oil and natural gas off the coast of Somalia, Bayraktar stated that within the scope of the agreement, they received privileges and licenses in three sea areas of approximately 5 thousand square kilometers each and a total of 15 thousand square kilometers off the coast of Somalia.

Bayraktar said, “We will start 3D seismic work quickly. We have included the Oruç Reis Seismic Research Vessel in our planning. We are sending it to Somalia at the end of September, beginning of October.”

Bayraktar also touched upon Turkey’s work with Niger from the African continent in the field of energy, reminding that Turkey has 3 gold mines in Niger and that the necessary work to extract gold began in 2020.

Bayraktar continued his words as follows:

“Our goal is to realize the first gold production in 2025. Niger is a country with very rich resources in this sense. It has potential in gold mines, other mines such as uranium mines, as well as oil and natural gas. Therefore, we will meet some of our country’s needs with external resources through mining investments and oil and natural gas investments in these countries.”

Regarding the issue of bringing Turkmenistan gas to Turkey, which is one of the important steps towards becoming a natural gas center, Bayraktar said that they initially aim to bring 1.5-2 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Turkey in the following months or at the beginning of 2025.
