A federal judge has initially stopped the U.S.ID custody of Elon Musk. The decision is a setback for the Trump government and raises new questions about Musk’s role.
In the opinion of a judge, the breakdown of the development authority USA by the savings committee “Department of Government Efficiency” (Doge) listed by Tech billionaire Elon Musk is probably unconstitutional. “The accelerated closure by USAID (…) probably violates the US constitution in several ways,” wrote federal judge Theodore Chuang.
Chuang ordered an injunction that the email and computer access of all USAI employees had to be restored. At the same time, Doge should not take any further steps to dissolve the authority.
The decision is a setback for the government of US President Donald Trump. USAID employees and contractors had sued. The judge wrote that there was no law that authorized the executive to close USAID.
“These measures not only harmed the plaintiffs, but also the public interest, since they robbed the elected representatives of the public in the congress of their constitutional authority, to decide whether, when and how an authority created by the congress should be closed.”
Musk’s committee Doge had released around 1,600 employees of the important development agency in the USA and took almost all employees abroad. In contrast, different lawsuits run. It can be assumed that they will go through the instances before finally clarity about the legality of the Trump government’s procedure.
The new decision also deals with Musks role in Doge and the dissolution of USAID. Trump’s statements and Musks behavior have shown that the tech billionaire in the department has in charge. This contradicted the white house that Musk does not lead the body, but instead it is only a consultant of Trump.
