Osamu Suzuki, the legendary name of Japan and the automotive industry, passed away.

Suzuki, who operated Suzuki Motor, known for its mini cars and motorcycles, for decades and led the company’s global expansion, was 94 years old.

In the statement made by the company, it was stated that the businessman died due to lymphoma on December 25, 2024.

During his tenure, the businessman, whose real name is Osamu Matsuda, established partnerships with General Motors and Volkswagen to sell vehicles in North America and Europe. He achieved a dominant market share for his company in India.

Suzuki, who has served as company president, chairman and CEO since 1978, retired in June 2021 and continued his role as a consultant.

Born on January 30, 1930, Osamu’s career, which started as a bank clerk, changed when he married Shoko Suzuki, the granddaughter of Michio Suzuki, the founder of Suzuki Motor. Since there was no male heir in the family, she joined the family as her in-laws and changed her surname to Suzuki. Osamu became the fourth adopted son to lead the company.
