Exports of the automotive industry in May decreased by 17 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 3 billion 264 million dollars.

According to the statement made by Uludağ Automotive Exporters Association (OİB), the share of the industry, which maintains its first place in Türkiye’s exports, in total exports was 16.8 percent.

Exports of the automotive industry in the 5 months of the year increased by 2.6 percent and reached 17 billion dollars.

“Tow trucks” exports increased by 13 percent to 168 million dollars.

In automotive sector exports, Germany maintains its position as the country with the highest exports with an export figure of 526 million dollars, while France was recorded as the second largest market with exports of 452 million dollars.

In May, European Union countries maintained their first place in exports on a country group basis with a 75 percent share and 2 billion 453 million dollars.

Exports to EU countries decreased by 13 percent in this period. While other European countries ranked second among country groups with a share of 9.5 percent, there was a 42 percent decrease in exports to other European countries and 26 percent to Middle Eastern countries in May.

OİB Chairman Kemal Yazıcı, whose evaluation was included in the statement, pointed out that the sectoral leadership continues and said, “The fact that the number of working days in May was less than last year had a negative impact on our exports. The 18 percent growth in the French market against the decreases in 9 of the top 10 markets and our high product-based increases in strategic markets such as the USA and Norway are important.” he said.
