Elon Musk Wants to Implant Brain Chips in Millions of People

Neuralink CEO Musk’s statement came after a video was shared showcasing the new capabilities of the brain-computer interface.

According to a video released by the company, the second patient who was fitted with the device used it to play shooter games and design three-dimensional objects.

“If all goes well, in a few years there will be hundreds of people with Neuralink, maybe in five years there will be tens of thousands, and in 10 years there will be millions,” Musk said in a response to Neuralink’s blog post on X.

The latest participant in the Neuralink human trial said he was able to perform new tasks using his thoughts, such as designing 3D objects using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

According to the Independent, the participant was able to design and print a custom mount for the Neuralink charger using a brain-computer interface, a process that had not been possible with the assistive technologies he had used before.

He could also play video games that usually required two separate joysticks to control the character.

NEURALINK’S FUTURE PLANS

Possible applications include transmitting music directly to the brain and improving eyesight to see new parts of the light spectrum, according to Musk.

But some neuroscientists argue that such capabilities are decades away and carry risks of hacking and cyberattacks.

Neuralink said it plans to add advanced functionality to brain implants used in human trials and develop new algorithms that can recognize handwritten intent to enable faster text input.
