3.12 am: The Democratic politician and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders reminded the delegates at the party convention that only three and a half years ago the USA was facing the biggest health crisis in the country. “Workers lost their health insurance, children lost their homes.” That was the situation that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris saw when they came into office, Sanders recalled. Within two months they had implemented an emergency plan to provide for the people. Sanders, who is considered to be on the left wing of the party, showed himself to be in line with the party line in his speech. “We need an economy that works for all of us, not just elites,” he told those present.
Sanders called for “big money” to be removed from the political process. He complained that wealthy donors had too much influence and called for government funding. He also pushed for the minimum wage to become a living wage. He advocated an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and called for the return of the hostages taken by Hamas on October 7.
