US President Trump is in a party mood. Even though a budget lock is currently paralyzing part of its government. His comment: “The show has to go on.”
The United States is in the shutdown: In the Senate in Washington, a transitional budget for the fourth time on Friday, for the fourth time, fell through a transitional budget, with which the expenditure lock for the federal administration could have ended. Some experts already assume a week -long standstill in federal services, state museums or national parks.
This does not apparently not remove US President Donald Trump from attending a huge celebration on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the US Navy. For this he is a guest at the Norfolk naval base in the US state of Virginia on Sunday-together with his wife Melania Trump, Minister of Defense Pete Hegseth and Minister of Navy John Phelan.
“This will be the biggest celebration in the history of the marine,” Trump wrote on Friday evening on his Truth Social platform. “Thousands of our brave active soldiers and military families will be present, and I’m looking forward to this special day with all of them.”
The celebration of the marine’s anniversary seems to have a special status for the US president: he accused the Democrat of having brought about the shutdown to “destroy this wonderful celebration for the birthday of the US Navy”.
However, he believed: “The show has to go on”. The US Navy had planned this event for many months and he refused to “let you down as your commander-in-chief”.
The military is also affected by the continuing budget lock in the United States: soldiers work without payment. In addition, several thousand federal employees have been left behind and all energy projects in democratic strongholds have been stopped.
