Donald Trump declared himself the arbiter of whether his own government should pay him damages for previous federal investigations, telling reporters that any such decision “would have to go across my desk.”

The president insisted Tuesday that the government owes him “a lot of money.” “It’s interesting because I’m the one making the decision, right?” Trump said at the White House in response to questions about administrative claims he had filed. This involves approximately $230 million in connection with the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago and the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The New York Times reported on these claims on Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump is planning a long meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. He assumes that something will come of it, he told reporters at the White House on Wednesday with a view to the trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies. Both presidents would meet for talks on the sidelines of the APEC summit in South Korea, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told the Fox Business Network. Trump recently left it open whether the encounter would take place. The meeting comes amid a dispute over Chinese export controls on rare earths and possible US retaliation.

The US military has destroyed an alleged smuggler’s boat in the Pacific. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth announced this on the X platform. According to Hegseth, two “narco-terrorists” were killed on board. The statement does not mention any evidence that they were drug smugglers.

A video shared by Hegseth shows an air strike against a blue boat. This is the eighth military strike by the United States against suspected smuggling boats. However, the previous ones all occurred in the Caribbean.

For a majority of German citizens, attitudes towards the USA have deteriorated significantly since President Donald Trump took office for the second time in January. Almost two thirds of those surveyed – 65 percent – stated in a representative survey by the opinion research institute Forsa for the magazine “Internationalepolitik” that their own general attitude towards the USA had recently deteriorated. However, only 8 percent say their attitude towards America has improved since Trump took office. For a quarter (25 percent), the image of the USA has not changed.
