A Boeing from Qatar could soon take off as Air Force One for US President Trump. The deal would be a break with conventions and should raise ethical and legal questions.
According to US media, US President Donald Trump could accept a luxurious Boeing Aircraft from the Katar Emir family as a gift. The aircraft should be upgraded to the presidential machine Air Force One and donated from the office to his presidential foundation after Trump’s departure, several US media reported.
This would be a very unusual step. The White House was therefore not expressed as possible plans. According to reports, the aircraft is a long-haul aircraft of the Boeing 747-8.
Trump wants to travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates from Tuesday to Thursday. The plan could throw up during Trump’s stay in Qatar. He would raise legal and ethical questions. It is questionable whether the Trump government should accept such an expensive gift from a foreign partner, the US broadcaster ABC wrote. Accordingly, various government laws have dealt with the plan and probably approved it.
A Boeing 747-8 costs more than $ 400 million (355 million euros) in 2019. According to the US media, the aircraft in question is more than a decade old. The two current presidential aircraft have been in use since the 1990s. These are two converted aircraft of the Boeing 747-200B type. As a flying office, a machine and a similarly configured replacement plane are specially tailored to the needs of the US president. They have the latest communication technology and anti-rocket devices and can be refueled in the air.
Trump had ordered two new machines from Boeing in his first term. After years of delaying and increasing costs, it is unclear whether at least one of the two 747 machines ordered will be handed over to Trump’s term. Finally, Tech billionaire Elon Musk should ensure that Trump gets a new presidential aircraft faster. Privately, Trump uses a Boeing 757, which is known under the nickname “Trump Force One”.
