Donald Trump sharply criticizes the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize. The award winner had previously reacted to him with a swipe.

US President Donald Trump complained again on Friday that he had not received the Nobel Peace Prize. He described the Nobel Prize Committee’s decision as disgraceful and embarrassing. “This is an indelible stain on the country Norway and for those people who made such a shameful and embarrassing decision,” Trump said in a campaign speech in the state new York.

He helped stop wars between North and… South KoreaJapan and North Korea as well as China and Taiwan to prevent it, he said, without giving any evidence. “The Nobel Peace Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of radical ideologues who are anti-democratic and real enemies of civilization. And we will not forget that, Norway,” he said.

“Mysterious person”: Trump criticizes the choice of the Nobel Peace Prize winner

Trump made the comments a few hours after the committee awarded this year’s prize to South African lawyer and human rights activist Navanethem “Navi” Pillay. The 85-year-old will be honored for her commitment to peace and international law, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday in Oslo.

Pillay’s career has included being a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and UN Human Rights Commissioner. Pillay also chaired the UN Commission of Inquiry into the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which concluded last year that Israel in the Gaza Strip committed genocide. Israel rejected the report as “scandalous”.

In his campaign speech in Syracuse, New York, Trump called Pillay a “mysterious person.” “I have never heard of this person,” he said. Nobody has that.

Prize winner mocks Trump

Pillay himself had previously joked about Trump’s claim that he deserved the award. At a conference on international criminal law in Nuremberg she said to applause from her colleagues: “If you clap a little louder, maybe I’ll share the prize with Trump.” The audience laughed. The scene can be seen in a video that Amnesty International Secretary General Agnès Callamard published on the X platform.

The comment came before Trump’s recent complaints. Trump has expressed disappointment at not winning the award in every year of his presidency so far.
