A study conducted in the USA discovered a new, previously unknown structure in the skull.
St. in the USA Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have identified a new organ-like structure in the skull bone marrow where brain-specific immune cells are trained and directly fight brain tumors.
It was determined that this structure works like a ‘security center’ to fight brain cancer in the early stages. Experiments revealed that immune cells are trained in these centers and defend against threats directly in the brain, without the need for other parts of the body.

Researchers found that these structures play a critical role against ‘glioblastoma’, a particularly deadly type of brain tumor. It was reported that mice whose immune foci under the skull were strengthened fought tumors much more effectively and their survival time was significantly prolonged.
The lead author of the study is Prof. Dr. In his evaluation of the findings, Jonathan Kipnis said, “The skull bone marrow is not just a protective skeleton; it hosts previously unknown centers where brain-specific immune responses are managed. The existence of these structures may open completely new doors in the treatment of neurological diseases and brain tumors.”

Experts emphasized that there are strong signs that the structures in question are also found in the human skull. It was noted that the current findings have the potential to strengthen immunity with gels to be applied under the scalp without the need for surgical intervention.
