In the written statement made by the Banks Association of Turkey (TBB), information about frequently encountered fraud methods and ways to protect against these methods for safe transactions in digital channels was included.

In the statement, it was mentioned that there is a need to inform the public due to the recent increase in fraud cases on the internet and mobile channels, and the frequently encountered types of fraud were listed. Among these; Fraud through fake websites and unsafe shopping platforms, acquisition of personal information through manipulation, fraud through fake accounts on social media platforms, capture of personal information through messages from fake e-mail addresses, stealing of personal information through fake SMS and e-mails. These included attempts to steal information and money by remotely accessing devices, and data theft by installing malicious software on computers or mobile devices.

In the information, it was underlined not to click on links or links in notifications received via SMS, e-mail or social media without being sure of their source.

It was pointed out that verification should be made using the official communication channels of the service provider and that a single click may direct the person to fake sites or viruses.

“DO NOT INSTALL MOBILE APPLICATIONS ON YOUR DEVICES THAT YOU ARE NOT SURE OF”

In the information that emphasizes that users’ bank accounts should not be made available to anyone, “Do not share your passwords with anyone. People who introduce themselves as prosecutors, police officers, soldiers, bank employees, lawyers or those who request your password, card information and personal data for a reward, premium refund or card fee refund.” “Do not trust it, do not click on links sent for this purpose. Do not install mobile applications on your devices if you are not sure of their security. Vulnerable or pirated applications can capture your personal information, damage your device and even lead to identity theft.” It was said.

In the statement, it was warned to follow the security announcements made by banks and it was underlined that the warnings conveyed in these announcements should be taken into account in order to keep personal information up-to-date.

“DO NOT USE YOUR PASSWORDS ON OTHER APPLICATIONS AND SHOPPING SITES”

In the statement, it was stated that it is important to carefully check the permissions requested by the application installed on the personal mobile phone, computer and tablet, and the following warnings were made:

“Download your banking applications from official application stores. Do not download applications from unknown or unreliable sources. Do not use the passwords you use in banking applications in other applications and shopping sites. Your passwords can be captured on less secure sites, and your banking applications can be logged in by trying these passwords.

Do not shop from websites whose security you are not sure of. You may be defrauded through a fake site opened for fraudulent purposes. Check your bank account statements and transactions regularly, and in case of doubt, contact your bank without delay. In this context; “All warnings and information made by official institutions and service providers regarding fraud cases should be taken into account.”
