Within the scope of the study, researchers examined the behavior and spring migration movements of 71 evening bats in Switzerland and observed how these animals migrated every spring for 3 years by placing sensors on the bats.

Researchers examined the 4-week movements of female bats, which they prefer because they migrate more, in each migration season.

Researchers determined that these animals do not have a specific migration route and stated that these bats can travel approximately 400 kilometers in a single night and also stop in many places.

Researchers noted that the movements of bats increase on certain days and that this depends on the weather.

Researchers emphasized that bats travel by using the hot winds to glide during periods when air pressure drops and temperatures increase, that is, when a storm approaches, and pointed out that sensors show that bats travel by spending less energy during these periods.

Researchers stated that they estimate that bats travel approximately 1600 kilometers during the spring migration period, but more studies need to be done to determine the behavior of these animals throughout the year.

The research was published in the journal “Science”.
